Item Serial Numbers

Edited

This document provides guidance on how to manage serial numbers for items available for hire within the HirePOS system. It outlines the procedures for both singular and bulk items, ensuring accurate tracking and management of inventory.

Serial Number Management

Singular Items

For singular items, where the "Quantity For Hire" is set to 1, a searchable "Serial Number" identifier can be recorded against the item. The maximum length for this identifier is 50 characters.

Bulk Items

For bulk items, where the "Quantity For Hire" exceeds 1, "Serial Tracking" should be utilised. This involves setting up multiple serial tracking numbers that correspond to the quantity of items available for hire. See the serial tracking help guide.

Displaying Serial Numbers

In the Items List

To display the "Serial Number" column in the Setup > Items list, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Items.

  2. Click the Filters button to expand the filters section.

  3. Toggle on the Show Serial Number switch.

  4. Click the Filters button again to close the filters section.

The Serial Number column will now appear adjacent to the Code column.

In the Item Details Screen

To display the "Serial Number" field in the item details screen, ensure you are editing a singular item with a Quantity For Hire of 1 (rather than a bulk hire item) and then perform the following steps:

  1. Click the [+] link located next to the "Code" field.

  2. This action will expand the view to show the Group Code and the Serial Number columns.

Once expanded, your personal preference for displaying these fields will be remembered for future visits to this screen.
