Qty/Units vs Qty/Items

Edited

This document provides a comprehensive overview of how item line pricing is calculated in HirePOS. It explains the two key columns used in the pricing structure: "Qty/Units" and "Qty/Items", along with specific scenarios where each applies.

Item Line Pricing Overview

In HirePOS, every item line features two columns that are essential for calculating the total price of the line item. These columns are referred to as "Qty/Units" and "Qty/Items".

Qty/Units

The "Qty/Units" column is always visible and indicates the number of selling units that will be charged. For instance, if you are using a day rate and are hiring an item for 4 days, the "Qty/Units" could be set as 4.

Qty/Items

The "Qty/Items" column is not always displayed; it only appears in instances where a "Time Based" selling unit is associated with a "Bulk Item" rather than a singular item. For more information on this distinction, please refer to our guide on Singular vs Bulk Items.

When the "Qty/Items" column is present, it represents the number of items being rented. Continuing with the previous example, if you have 2 items for 4 days, the calculation would be represented as "Qty/Units" = 4, "Qty/Items" = 2. The final calculation for the total price would then be 4 x 2 x (Your selected Rate/Price).

Each Unit (Non-Time Based Units)

It is important to note that there is a notable exception regarding the default "Each" unit or any other selling unit that does not have a timespan. In such cases, only the "Qty/Units" column will be present, which refers to both the number of items and the number of units.

This scenario is commonly applicable when an item is not charged based on the duration of the hire and instead has a single charge for hire or is categorised as a consumable item.

Conclusion

Understanding the distinction between "Qty/Units" and "Qty/Items" is crucial for accurate pricing in HirePOS. By familiarising yourself with these concepts, you can ensure that your pricing calculations are both accurate and efficient.
