Choosing Fonts in HirePOS Editors
When creating or editing text in HirePOS, such as in your Email Templates, Terms and Conditions, or other long-format text fields, you’ll see some basic formatting options like bold, italic, and underline. In most cases, no specific font is applied by default, and that’s actually ideal.
Default System Font
If you don’t manually select a font, HirePOS will display your text using the System Font, which is the standard font built into the reader’s device or operating system. This ensures your text looks clean and professional everywhere, and it automatically adapts to each device.
Examples include:
Windows → Segoe UI
macOS → SF Pro (or Helvetica on older versions)
Android → Roboto
Ubuntu/Linux → Ubuntu
iPhone/iPad → SF Pro
Leaving the font as System Font gives the best readability and compatibility across all devices.
Using the Basic Editor
When you first open a page such as Edit Email Template or Edit Terms and Conditions, you’ll see the Basic Editor. This has a small toolbar for quick formatting actions like bold, italic, underline, and font clearing.
To remove font information in the Basic Editor, click the button that looks like a capital T with a diagonal line through it. This performs the same function by clearing the selected text’s font information and returning it to System Font.
Using the Advanced Editor
In larger text areas, such as Email Templates or Terms and Conditions, you can open extra formatting tools by switching to the Advanced Editor. Look for the small toolbar at the top of the editor window. Depending on the version, you’ll see either a small T and a big T, or two arrows (one pointing right and one pointing left, stacked vertically). Click this to toggle the Advanced Editor.
Within the Advanced Editor, you’ll see a Format menu along the top. To remove unwanted styling (such as a pasted-in font), choose:
Format > Clear Formatting
This restores your text to the default System Font.
When to Specify a Font
In most cases, you shouldn’t. Leaving the font as System Font ensures your text adapts cleanly to all screens and devices.
If you want to use a specific font for branding reasons, you can, but always test your template across several devices first:
Windows and Mac computers
Apple and Android phones
Tablets and Chromebooks
Make sure it remains readable and displays consistently everywhere.
Best Practice
Terms and Conditions: Always use System Font for readability and legal clarity.
Email Templates: System Font is safest, but brand fonts can be used after testing.
If unsure what’s applied: Always use Clear Formatting to reset text back to System Font.
When pasting from Word or another site: Always clear formatting afterward to remove hidden font and style information.
Tech Note (for the curious)
When no font is selected, HirePOS uses a modern fallback stack like:
font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell,
'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;
This ensures that no matter the operating system, the most suitable built-in system font is used (maintaining readability and visual consistency for your customers).
