SMS Setup - SMS Express

This document provides a step-by-step guide on how to set up the SMS functionality in HirePOS using SMS Express.

SMS Express is the Preferred option for SMS in HirePOS users in Australia and New Zealand.

Create an Account with SMS Express

To begin, follow these steps:

Create SMS Express API Keys

After you have created your SMS Express account, you will need to generate some 'API keys' to add to HirePOS. These keys permit HirePOS to use your SMS Express account on your behalf when you send SMSs from HirePOS.

Do the following to generate an API Key for HirePOS to use:

  1. Log into your SMS Express portal using your username and password.

  2. In the SMS Express portal, go to Settings in the menu panel

  3. Click on API Keys

  4. Click the + Create API Key button at the top-right

  5. Select HTTP from the dropdown menu

  6. Select Auto-Generate credentials when presented with the option

  7. After doing this, you will be presented with the Client ID (username) and API Secret (password).

  8. Copy both of these values into a secure document on your device before closing the pop-up, as they will not be displayed on the website again after doing so
    (Alternatively, you can add them straight to HirePOS in Setup > Preferences > SMS Settings)

  9. Click Close

Configure SMS settings in HirePOS as follows:

  • From the main menu, go to Setup > Preferences > SMS Settings

  • Set the Service Provider as "SMS Express"

  • Enter your SMS Express Client ID and API Secret in the marked fields

  • Unless correctly registered, it is best to leave the Sender ID field blank (refer to the next step for Sender ID details)

  • Click Save

Note: You can only check credits after saving your account settings.

Sender ID

To use a custom Sender ID:

  • Register your desired ID to prevent messages from being marked as 'unverified'

  • Contact SMS Express at info@smsexpress.com.au or 1300 668 287 to start the registration process

  • Registration typically takes 2-3 days (custom SIDs not allowed in New Zealand)

You can define a Sender ID to alter who the SMS appears to come 'From'.

Sending a Test SMS

To test your configuration:

  • From the main menu, go to CRM > Send SMS

  • Enter your mobile number and a test message

  • Check your available credits

  • Click Send SMS

By following these steps, you can successfully set up and test the SMS functionality in HirePOS using SMS Express as the provider.

As of 27/09/2024, the process of recharging your SMS Express credits is as follows:

  • Click the top-right Buy Now button to open the purchase panel

  • Enter your desired credit amount in the SMS credits field and click Proceed to payment

  • Select your payment method and follow the corresponding payment instructions

    • For Card: Enter your card details

    • For Paypal: You will be redirected to Paypal website after clicking Complete Purchase to complete the payment

    • For Direct Payment: Await further email correspondence from SMS express to complete the payment

  • Enter your Billing Address

  • Click Pay Now
