Edited

This document provides comprehensive information on how to effectively utilize barcode scanners and customize barcode labels within the HirePOS system. By following the guidelines outlined below, users can streamline their inventory management and sales processes.

Supported Barcode Scanners

HirePOS supports any type of "Keyboard wedge scanner." These scanners emulate keyboard input, ensuring compatibility with the system. To test compatibility, simply scan a barcode into a text editor, such as Notepad; the scanned data should appear in the editor.

Setting Up Barcodes for Items

To set up barcodes for items in HirePOS, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Setup > Items from the main menu.

  2. Select an item to edit and navigate to the Stock Control tab.

  3. Enter a barcode and save the changes.

If the barcode is the same as the Supplier Code or Item Code, it does not need to be entered separately. Typically, barcodes represent manufacturer codes, while Item Codes are used for internal identification.

Customizing Barcode Labels

HirePOS offers default barcode label templates for Hire and Sales items. These templates can be customized to accommodate various printer and paper configurations. For specific requirements, a Custom Request can be submitted via the ? icon in HirePOS.

For specialized barcode label materials, such as coated labels, it is advisable to consult with your barcode label supplier for recommendations.

Printing Barcodes

To print barcodes in HirePOS, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Setup > Items from the main menu.

  2. Click the Options button and select Print Barcodes.

  3. In the Item Barcodes screen, set the quantity to be printed and choose between Sales or Hire items.

  4. Preview the barcodes and then proceed to print them.

Using Barcode Labels for Scanning

In sales records or purchase orders, barcode labels can be utilized for scanning. Simply click the Code header in the invoice line items to scan an item into the record. Similarly, codes can be scanned for Purchase Orders via the Code column in the Purchase Order screen.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can efficiently manage barcodes and labels in HirePOS, thereby enhancing your inventory and sales processes.
