Square POS Payments on iOS
HirePOS can hand an EFTPOS payment from an iOS device to the Square Point of Sale app.
This is a basic handoff to Square rather than a full payment integration. HirePOS passes the invoice number and payment amount to the Square app, where the card payment is processed.
Set up Square on an iOS device
Before using this option:
Install and set up the Square Point of Sale app on the iPhone or iPad.
Sign in to the appropriate Square account.
In HirePOS, go to Setup > Preferences > Default Payment Settings.
Enable Use Square (for iOS device).
Click Save Changes.
Process a Square payment
When receiving a payment against an invoice:
Enter the payment in HirePOS and select EFTPOS as the payment method.
Continue with the payment as normal.
HirePOS will open the Square Point of Sale app and pass across the payment amount.
Complete the card transaction in Square.
After Square finishes processing the transaction, return to HirePOS.
What Square and HirePOS exchange
The Square option is designed to make in-person payments quicker by opening the Square app with the payment amount already entered.
It does not provide full payment synchronisation between Square and HirePOS.
In particular:
HirePOS does not connect to your Square account or retrieve Square transactions.
Square transactions are not automatically reconciled against HirePOS payments.
Refunds, voids and transaction searches are managed separately in Square.
HirePOS does not use the Square transaction result to automatically confirm or update the payment record.
The feature is intended for the Square Point of Sale app on an iOS device.
The HirePOS payment and the Square card transaction should therefore be treated as two related records. If a Square transaction is cancelled, declined or otherwise not completed, check the payment recorded in HirePOS and correct it if required.
For other EFTPOS terminals without a direct HirePOS integration, payments can also be processed on the terminal and manually recorded in HirePOS.
