Specific Item Discounts

HirePOS allows you to easily define a discount percentage, per line, on an invoice while compiling the invoice. It also allows you to define a discount percentage as a default on a per-customer basis. This can be done across-the-board, to only Hire or Sales Items, or even to Non-Stock Items.

However, in some circumstances, it is desirable to set default discounts and customer-specific pricing right down at the item level. This might be in order to only offer discounts on high-margin items or to offer discounts only on the customer's primary recurring hire items.

To access the customer-specific pricing page:

  • Navigate to Setup > Customers
  • Select the customer you wish to create the specific pricing for
  • Select the "Discounts" tab in the customer record
  • Click "Specific Item Discounts" towards the bottom of the page

The Specific Item Discounts Page

Note: only items with at least one selling unit defined in Setup > Items will be visible on this screen.

This tool allows you to work in one of two distinct ways.

  • Define a discount percentage that will apply only to specific items when they are added to the invoice.
    • This percentage will be applied to whatever the price is in Setup > Items when creating the invoice. The percentage will be freely editable afterwards in the invoice (it will appear in the "discount" column of the invoice.
  • Define an overriding "special" price for the customer
    • This allows you to freely specify a price to be used for a particular item when it is added to an invoice billed to this customer.
    • Note: This is an overriding, fixed price. Should you make changes to your global pricing in the future, you may also need to revisit any customers whom you have defined "special prices" for, in order to make corresponding pricing corrections.

It is important to note that any discounts or prices specified in this area will override any discount percentages set on the previous screen
